I posted pics of my chicks when they were 5.5 weeks old, and I was told my RIR is a rooster(I know he is definitely one), my ancona was a pullet, and people were leaning towards male on my GLW. Here are pics of everyone... I'm pretty certain my australorp, ancona, and SLW are females--- the BO I'd like to think is a girl since she definitely acts like one and has virtually no wattle development and a tiny yellow comb, but I know they can be tricky. I'm lost on what my GLW is, though((they'll all be 8 weeks around Friday)

Lacey, SLW:

A little pink on the comb and wattles, but wattles are itty bitty and her comb isn't raised at all
---

Anna, buff orpington--- she ACTS like a pullet

-----

I couldn't get any full body pics of Alice(ancona) because the moment I let her go she started running around the shop trying to get away from me. She's by far the most skittish chicken, and two weeks ago I was told she was a pullet, and she has more comb because she's a Mediterranean breed.
----

My 100% definite roo boy, Pepper the RIR. He's such a cutie and one of my faves <3 it's a shame I won't be able to keep him for his whole life
----

And here's the mystery chicken, Ruby. I cannot for the life of me tell if he's a cockerel or a pullet! People were leaning towards male, but weren't sure, so told me to post pics of him in a couple weeks.... Waiting two weeks hasn't helped me any, he definitely has a different body/comb/face/wattle shape than Lacey, and has a more 'chiseled' body, but acts like the other pullets. =/ I'm sure someone on here can tell. I just need to plan for replacement chicks and how many.

And lastly, Loki, australorp, pretty positive she's a pullet:

Well there's all the chicks. In order, I'm thinking:

SLW: Pullet, BO: Pullet, Ancona: Pullet, RIR: Roo(positive on that), GLW: not sure, BA: Pullet

I think your red is the only male. The gold laced doesn't look male at all. The silver kinda makes me nervous with the lighter patches on the wings, but no other sign of male.

Ruby(the GLW) just has a more prominent comb and red wattles, so I wasn't sure and same with a few others. And about the SLW, really? I didn't know that the white on the wings had anything to do with it(or maybe I did, i dunno, I read a lot about chick sexing I forget a few things now and then), but I would be absolutely shocked if Lacey ends up being male just because she... well, just seems like a she. Unlike Pepper who always has acted like a boy imo.

Thanks for the reply! I really hope Ruby's a girl since I really wanted to keep a GLW!

Just as an aside. when they hit 8 weeks they should be switched from medicated chick crumbles to grower crumbles. (noticed you had a bag of medicated crumbles there.)

You prob knew that already..lol

Really? Most things I've read say to keep them on it until 12 to 18 weeks.... My chick food is UNmedicated purina start and grow, too, I didn't feel the need to get my small amount of 6 chicks medicated feed =)

LOL..sorry about that.. I guess it's from 8 to 12 weeks with 12 being the limit on chick starter?. I remembered last time I had chicks I bought some grower crumbles and mixed it half and half with the chick starter starting around week 9 or 10 and then gradually reduced the amount of chick starter until it was gone and they were on straight grower crumbles. My bad.
