I got an order of 17 chicks from Mcmurray that arrived on Friday. After putting them all in their brooder with their heater, food, water, and gro gel they all seemed happy and ok until the next day. Some started to lay down and never get back up until they ended up passing... we haven’t lost another since Sunday but since Sunday night we’ve had one that is unable to walk but will eat and drink if I set it next to the food and water. It chirps more than the others but doesn’t seem to be upset, it just doesn’t walk much. It will hobble away from my hand when I reach for it, but it can’t go very far. Their bottoms are clean, I am new to mail order chicks. Is there something I can do for the poor baby?

Maybe the chicks got injured during transport. It may have shown up early if this was true, but who knows. Keep giving the chick the water and food closeby so it doesn't have to struggle too much.

Thank you :) I hope it’s not injured but I guess that’s better than an illness that can’t be fixed :(

You may want to post some pictures of the legs. She might have a slipped tendon or splay legs. You also can make her a chick chair to keep her in front of food and water. But if she is able to get to her food and water, it might be better to let her move around. Does she hold her one leg out to the side or is she limping or holding a leg up?

I went to go check on her and she seems to be limping when she tries to walk. This is as high as she will stand but most of the time she is laying down

Thank you so much!! I will get some in the morning :) I have another order coming on Friday so I would like to get this figured out before then. Any advice on how I can prevent so much loss this time?
