Okay, so here are the 6 free extras I got in my ideal chick order of 11. I'm fairly sure they are a large or medium breed. I think they may be Barred Rocks or Cuckoo Morans (Highly unlikely to me, my cuckoo morans were much lighter!). Here are two group pictures -

Here is the one I think may be a pullet. She has almost NO white spot at the top of her head (color sexing breed?), and seems to be smaller than the other extras.....

ALSO, some seem to have some black on some their legs....is this any kind of indicator?

Just say the word if you guys need more pictures!

They look like Black Sex links because of the amount of yellow in their head spots. So if that is the case, you have all Roos. And the one your thinking is Pullet may be a 50/50 chance there, but again, might all be Black Sex links. Ideal is usually good about giving ALL roos as packing peanuts.

I got 15 of those (1 was DOA) in my order from Ideal today. I had the same question, and posted it in Breeds & Genetics, about "BR chick head spots." I had just assumed they were all BR's, hadn't even considered anything else. But mikarod suggested they might be black sex-links, and only the males have head spots. Ideal has both BR's and sex links available right now, so I guess they could be either.

I don't know if you believe in the pendulum test to sex chicks, but I do. Use a needle and thread, or a washer on a thread, and hold it still over the chick. If it swings in a circle, it's a female. If it goes back and forth in a line, it's a male. Works on people too. Try it on yourself and your family... then if it works on them, try it on your chicks. Based on this, all 14 of my babies are males. My cochin day-olds are 50/50, and I marked the toes of the ones who show males. Every time I re-test, it gives the same answer.

Here's the link to my post earlier today. I got a great answer about sexing BR's by head spot, fluff color, and leg color.

I'v tried the pendulum with a needle on thread and it does work. We tried it over and over and over on each other and it says the same thing time and time again. I am gonna try this on my chicks tomorrow...LOL

I will have to agree with the others they look like BR Roos, head spot is a give away, although the black feet will indicate BSL.

Thanks guys! I figured they were BRs, but like some said I never thought BSL. Well, cant wait until these guys grow up!

I took a good look @last weeks "extras" They are not showing any barring on their wing feathers. Seems to me my BRs showed barring right away.......could be BSL

I have BR's and the barring did not show up untile the second week I believe, maybe a little longer.

What ever they are they sure are cute!! Gotta love those fluffy butt's.
