Hello! Back story is I have 19 ee's and 8 buff orps the flocks live separate but next to each other. I have a 6 month old Easter egger who is broody for the 2nd time last time it took me 10 days to break her and only 2 weeks go by and she is broody AGAIN and it's been 5 days and no breaking so I'm doing what I never thought I'd do and I'm letting her hatch!

She is my most faithful broody. She takes breaks and is faithful to her one box she is also the only broody that stays in the nest at night.

I'm giving her buff eggs to hatch bc those are from 2 yr old hens and the Ee's are still small and still get double yolks so they are too iffy to hatch.

Tonight, August 19th marks the first egg given, layed today by a Buff.
Tomorrow I will add 1 or 2 more at most

Rambita is laying on her nest tonight, and I trust she will be a faithful setter.

My plan is to enclose her at hatch so there is no danger with the chicks and 18 other pullets (6 month olds)

This is Rambita when she was younger...

I'll post pics and short vids too.. follow along at my first time hatching my own eggs with a young broody

I'm excited,

Great! I'm so glad I have all of you following!

Today I had to be away but I looked in on her before daybreak she was happy, and not hot (yayyy)
I rubbed her cheek goodbye and she didn't growl at me

The CUTEST thing I noticed when I got home at 3 pm she was out bathing I was a bit concerned thinking "Oh no did my journey stop as soon as it started?" But no, the cute thing is she had a SUBSTITUTE sitter :lau

Tigger was sitting on them so Rambita could take a longer break! As soon as Rambita was ready she came in and Tigger left and Rambita went back to sitting! I thought that was really cool

I didn't have the camera bc I had just gotten back and I was busy with refilling puddles and ice
(It was 105 f today)

Also, I got 2 more buff eggs and gave both to her I know the parentage of each egg, bc I know my buffs eggs each has their own "signature"

So now 3 buff eggs and hubby wants me to put 1 ee egg in anyhow he wants a roo like marshmellow

Here are the pics of the buff dad

thanks!

She is in a community area but I have 2 different nest buildings and everyone has stopped laying in the mansion (thats what i call the building where she is ) and all go to the coop buildings to lay right now

Even though there are several boxes everyone is respecting her space, but I'm a nervous mama and plan to enclose her space once they are close to hatch day
