6 months and still no eggs!

OMG! Got home today and found 2 eggs in the box! My wife checked yesterday and didn't see any and within 24 hrs i found two...wohooo!

I have 3 boxes, placed a golf ball in each, and even tried a curtain thing on two of them- well, they must like the one without the curtain b/c both eggs were in that one...

appears i have two layers now...

I also got my first egg today out of 6 hens that are all about 6 months old. I think one of the RIRs laid the egg, she's got a much redder comb and waddle than any of the others. I'm just excited to see an egg! No lights, I let them free range a few hours a day (I worry about predators when I'm not watching closely) and have been feeding layer crumbles for about the last month. They have free access to oyster shells and I feed them leftover salad almost every day. I don't know if any one of those things helped me finally get an egg, my guess is that she just finally got mature enough.

I don't know about 16 hours of light, mine only get what nature provides (a little less than 12 hours right now) and the one that started laying is laying an egg every day. I'm pretty shocked, I expected to have to wait until spring.
