Hi everyone! My ladies are just over 6 months old and we still have yet to get any eggs. They are either in their coop or their run so I know they're not hiding them somewhere in the yard. I was told by a friend to not give them layer pellets until they start laying. Should I stick with grower until they start laying or are they not laying because I haven't switched them to layer feed? I've also read that if I put a golf ball in their nesting box that may stimulate them to lay. But then again I don't want to rush them if they're not ready. Help!!

Walmart sells wooden eggs in their craft department that work perfect. I fairly new to this but I have had success with my flock (18 hens and 1 Easter Egg Rooster) Make sure that they're getting enough light as well as heat at night. Now that's it's starting to cool down its about time to give them a warm place at night.

Some chickens just take longer to lay.

What breed are your chickens?

We have 3 black australorps, 3 welsummers, and 3 barred rocks. One of the barred rocks did squat when I touched her a couple days ago. But she was the only one and it was the first time any of them have done anything like that. They are definitely investigating their nesting boxes too. 2 out of 4 boxes have lots of feathers and little chicken bum imprints. Just no eggs.

It sounds like they are thinking about it anyway. Some things you just can't hurry...they'll lay when they are good and ready. Little rascals!
