Hey guys, I'm new here and pretty excited to be apart of the community! I bought my first set of ducks (khaki campbells) about 8 weeks ago, and have been having a blast with them. They are getting to the point of adulthood, and I am starting to think that 6 out of the 7 ducks are males

I cannot be 100% sure at this point, but what if they are? I am assuming they will compete to have the one female, and I don't want that to happen, for everyone's sake!! I bought them unsexed from tractor supply, and didn't want to separate them, so I bought the last 7. If I get rid of the female, will all of the males fight? I don't even want to think about getting rid of any of my new babies, should I possibly buy more females? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What makes you think that you have mostly males? Do you have pics?

Welcome to BYC, your choices are have an all drake flock some here do and hopefully will chime in, or get at least 2 or more females to go with each drake you have. and their still will be competition for top drake and who can get as many girls as he can. Having to re home is very hard I just had to do it this year having 4 drakes I re homed 2 and the flock is much more calm and happy. I was the one broken hearted.

The best ratio is 3 or more females to every male.

6 of them are developing the raspy quack, I only hear one with the strong loud quack, and the same one who has the strong loud quack has a completely light brown body. The one's that I think are male are starting to develop the dark blue feather at the end of their wings, and a dark line on their necks, possibly indicating the beginning of the dark green head. I will get some pictures when I get home from work.

Ok, I think I will have to get more females :) Ok with me, I'm lovin the duck life!! :)

It sounds like you are right on in your assessment. Do you have a Rural King in your area? I was there about a week ago and they were still cleared to sell chcks. They had a bunch of KCs and Pekins.

Unfortunately we don't :( At least I think we don't, I'm in Maine. I think craigslist will be the best solution to my problems, buying up all of the female ducks I can that might be around the same age as my ducks are now. Is it ok to have a couple of different breeds of female's to compensate? Or should I be sticking strictly to khaki Campbell's so my ducks don't get confused? Sounds like a silly question, but I am curious
