So I moved my 6 of my chicks outside 1 1/2 to 2 weeks ago since it's been warm. I put their heater out with them so they wouldn't be cold at night. Everything's been fine until now. Inside, chaos has begun. I have nine 3-week old chicks and one is a very aggressive Silver Sebright rooster. Today he's been fighting with other rooster chicks. My only temporary option was taking him out to the coop with the older ones, which are now 6 weeks old and all pullets. It's rainy and only 62 degrees at the moment and it'll be 54 tonight, way too cold for him even with the heater. I only have 2 heaters, one inside, one outside. Do you think the 6 week old chicks would be fine without the heater so I can keep the rooster inside? I'm going to keep him separate with a pullet for companionship. The older chicks are almost fully feathered except for one. I think they'll be fine but I just thought I'd get opinions. They've been sleeping on top of the heater, rather than underneath where it heats.

I think you should be able to. What is your temperature outside the brooder? If it is 20 degrees celcius or more, I personally think it would be fine.

You are south of me, though maybe more elevated, but I have had my nine week old chicks off of heat for several weeks now. Probably a month. :) They will be fine, especially once they snuggle up. Heck, I have some four week olds outside right now as well.

Ok thanks for the reply! I feel better about them now. I'll probably stick the rest outside in a week or two once I get rid of some of the roosters. They are Cochins too which are supposed to do great in the cold.
