HELP. My 6week old leghorn pullet got a string wrapped around her tongue. It's causing swelling and I can see bleeding below the tie line. I can't seem to find how it's wrapped around her tongue- any tips?
I've got her secured in a towel and I've got a really good flashlight with a pair of tweezers I've rubbed down with alcohol. There's a long piece of thread coming out of her mouth but I'm pretty sure pulling on it made the thread cinch down tighter.
What can I do to calm her it's really hurting her when I muck with it

I replied on the other thread you were on. Can you get someone to help you hold her? Do you have some scissors that have a very fine point, such as small hair cutting or triming scissors to get it under the thread? The tongue can swell and block the air way, so I hope that you can get it cut. Some times when this happens, part of the thread or string can go down inside the crop, and it cannot be pulled out. Let us know what is happening.

Hey all, so I wrapped her in a towel and zipped her up in my snug sweater so I could use both hands to try and work on it. I'm not sure I got it all out as it was wound around the base of her tongue so tight it was embedded. Using a pair of nose hair trimming scissors I was able to pull it out of one side, but the other was way too deep. I ended up using my quilters razor seam ripper so I could hook it under the string and work on it like that, but I ended up cutting the lead of the string.
She was totally done after that so I marked the top of her head with a purple washable kids marker and let her go in the brooder for a break. She immediately began drinking and eating, and passed a pretty sizable poop she must of been holding onto poor baby.
I can't seem to get a good enough hold of her tongue to pull it out and see what it looks like now.
She's acting alright now but I'm thinking I didn't get it all, and I think I've put her under enough stress for today. I'll try it again tomorrow... But I do have a baby monitor on the brooder because saying try again later and actually doing that is pretty hard.
So that's where I'm at now ☹️

I really hope that she survives. It’s good that she was eating and drinking. After a rest I would check the to gue again. Do you think that she swallowed some of it?
I'm pretty sure she hasn't actually, unless I did leave some embedded as I fear and she was about to get it out on her own. I was totally relieved she drank and ate so fast but man alive am I worried.
