6 week old chick with spraddle leg

Hello everybody,

I posted a question about 2 weeks ago asking what was wrong with my then-4 week old chick whose legs had suddenly stopped working. Someone replied and said that he may have just been growing too fast and gotten spraddle leg so I have been treating him for spraddle leg for 2 weeks now without much improvement. I really don't know what to do now. He will eat and drink, but he doesn't like to walk. He mostly just sleeps all the time. Any ideas about how I can help him? Has anyone had this problem before? He is a bantam cochin by the way.

Sadly, not all animals are born perfect, just as humans are sometimes born with disabilities. With humans we go to extreme measures but with animals…..I choose not to. I will treat spraddle leg if they are under a week old. If they develop difficulties walking after that age, and do not respond to basic attempts to get them up and going again, I cull them humanely. I would rather do that than watch them slowly decline.
