6 week old chicks stretching out in the sun.

I went to check on my chicks Who were fine.....I thought something was terribly wrong. Two were laying on their sides sort of with wings fully stretched out. I opened the coop to see what was the matter and they popped right up like it was nothing. I closed up the coop and they did it again. I guess they were comfortable or something. They were both perfectly fine and have remained so. I am not sure if they were sunning themselves or taking a wierd dirt bath. I wanted to get a picture but they haven't done it since.

It can be rather alarming the first time you see them laying there as if mortally wounded, but they do love to lay in the sun and wallow like pigs in a good dust bath!

Hehe.. my still do that and they are 4-5 months old. When they were babies they would pile onto each other and lay out like that. Now they just walk around and once they hit a sun spot they collapse and lay there. I think it's the cutest thing!!!

Mine do the same, even still i see one do it and come running thinking something happend, but like always they just jump up and look at you and then lay back down. lol

the first time my wife saw the chickens sunbathing upside down she freaked out thinking they were all dead.

They had gven me a fright.

Yesterday, I was feeding them meal worms and have let my two flocks out of the coops before they go back to go up for the night and it started to rain. - They seem love the rain too! they were hoping around like a bunch of Robins - then they would run up to me for a worm and go back into the rain. So we picked them up and deposited them back in their coop with a nice fat wormy.

I think my chickens might be spoiled - just a little.
