6 week old ducklings.

I've just recently got two 6 week old ducklings not sure if there muscovy or cayuga ducks yet. Since being in there enclosure yesterday they've not eaten or drank anything there just huddling in one corner and haven't moved. I did have them in shallow water in the tub last night for around 10mins and they were absolutely fine. But there so skittish when being held. The person who I got them off has said sprinkle food bear them I've tried that they still haven't eaten. He's also said they will be scared cause they've left mum. And to just give them time. Has anyone else been in the same situation and if so any advice would be greatly appreciated

They will settle down and start eating within a couple of days. Ducklings do get separation anxiety, if not from their mama duck from others in their brooder if not raised by their mama.

But as for being skittish, that might persist. I find muscovy to be very curious and even those that do not want petting come up to see what is going on when I am in the garden. One, who hates to be touched and, even more, hates water comes up to me and tells me all about it at considerable length when I sit on a garden bench. I have no idea what it's all about. He is not threatening (I know threatening behavior) and its not mating (I know about that too!) But he stands there mouth open huffing and puffing excitedly for a long time.

There are feral muscovy around our local communities, and they walk round the front yards from door to door in search of food, that is too often given to them. Feral muscovy learn quickly to be friendly.

So if your ducklings are muscovy, there is a good chance they will settle down and take an interest in you!

Awwh thankyou. I'm not sure if there from the same mum or not. I'm sure the guy said one of the female ducks was pinching eggs. I'll send some pics now. Greatly appreciated this thankyou
