6 week old poult gobbled

I was so excited I just wanted to share. I was out tending to my 6 week old bourbon red poults this morning and one tom got all excited and started stutting and he gobbled numerous times. It was the cutest thing ever. I didnt think they gobbled this early though I am new to turkeys so I dont know when they start. I do know my 13 week old BBW gobbled for the first time yesterday. So is 6 weeks the norm for starting to gobble?

ours started that at a little over 4 weeks old, now at 7 weeks they are beginning to try breeding, I think they want a room of their own.

My Easter Wild poults are both toms (at least I think they are, they strut) and neither have gobbled yet :/

Chances are yes yours are both toms. But hens strut also. So from what Ive learned dont just go by the strut, a longer snood and a gobble is a definite tom. How old are yours?

My BR are 6 1/2 weeks. Here is my tom that gobbled strutting at 4 1/2 weeks old

My two are 10 weeks old.

Bruce They only strut when they are trying to attack the teenage chickens. They have to protect their silkies - They HATE my cochin mixes for some weird reason, but cuddle all the time with the silkies. They both have that snood appendage

Thats really funny. I read alot on here that people say their turkeys bond with the silkies more than other chickens. It must have something to do with the personality or something maybe they are calmer and less intimidating. I was thinking of getting silkies for my kids I hear they are wonderful with kids.

They are definitely great with kids. Always a hit.

I brought three of mine to a fair last weekend, and let many kids handle them. They are very calm and so soft. Plus they hardly eat anything at all, and are really affordable to raise (once you have already bought them - they run higher in price then other breeds).

My nephew was climbing a tree and one of the poults flew up and hung out with him. They like to sleep on my legs and LOVE a good neck scratch.

Turkeys are definitely not stupid. I also love the sounds they make. Even their warning call is pretty.
