I know it’s early to known for sure but I am noticing some differences in my 2 silkie chicks.

The black one has very sparse hairs on her head and the gold is getting very fluffy. Also the black one has a very small comb starting to develop and the gold doesn’t. They will be 7 weeks in 2 days time. Does anyone have any ideas on sex?

Sorry photos aren’t the best

Black looks like a cockerel, buff a pullet.

Silkies are a pain to sex and will keep you guessing until they pop out an egg! My guess would be cockerel for the little black and pullet for the buff. But.... I have a little black ‘lady’ that showed all the pullet signs at 4 months old and not a single bit of cockerel. This week her comb seems to have doubled in size and she is growing wattles! She’s not ready to lay because she is nowhere near mature size - so I may have another boy (3 out of 5 chicks :he). Just hang in there for a few more months and you should know for sure.

4 months is nearing lay for a Silkie... They will continue to grow as they age.
