6 wk chick not able to use legs to stand, walk or right itself UPDATE

Quote:

Yes it is a relief. Im so glad the vit b treatment seemed to have cured what ailed her. She is doing really well and is currently sitting, once again, in the tree she fell from the day I noticed a problem with her leg. Im so thankful for these chicken forums. I dont know what I would have done without folks, in the know, to turn to for help and advice.

We were told to cull a 3 day old baby chick with a weak leg, because she would only get picked on, etc. We decided to isolate her, up vitamin intake until she was stronger. She is now 7 weeks old and runs with all the "big" girls! Best of luck with your baby and SO VERY GLAD everything is looking up!

Yep, it seems many are quick to assume Merek's when any leg or wind paralysis occurs in a chicken. I knew my flock was closed and no other chickens were showing any symptoms so I did not want to assume Merek's. Im glad I did not.
Good for you for not giving up on your chick either. Lets continue to pass the word regarding vitamins as healers!

I have 8, they are 7 weeks old and have been living outside for almost a week. 6 are doing well but 2 (a buff orp and Ameracuna) seem to be slow. Both have sticky butts and lay down a lot. They can walk and they eat and drink but are just not as active as the others. They are also smaller than the rest and still have some baby feathers.

You can try vitamin therapy but that doesnt sound at all like what my Baby was going through. She ate well, had plenty of energy and alertness, great spirit and normal poo except for a short bought of runniness early one. She just couldnt seem to feel or use her legs or wings. That went on for two weeks before I started vit B therapy. During that time I spent time every day moving her legs so they would stiffen up. She laid with one straight out front and one back. She did not respond by grasping, her toes extended. She could not ever right herself and never tried to flap her wings. Today she is doing fine and that is after only 5 days on intensive Vit B therapy.
I hope vit therapy helps your fellas but I think someone else needs to give advice on your babies' issues.
