6 wk old cockerel trying to mate with the back of my head, and it hurts!

So glad your boy has learned his manners!
It's interesting that yours just stopped the chest bumping at 7 weeks and mins are just ramping up. But I only have the 2. Maybe your cockerel has proven his dominance and they have figured out the pecking order already. They are so much fun to watch - BETTER than kids on the playground, IMO!

They don't seem to have a pecking order I have a very big cockerel called buster
A small one called little cockerel, and cuddles, they just sit happily together, I did see buster take a peck at my hens bum so I told him off, maybe its because whenever they tried fighting I shouted at them?

I'm going to have the softest cockerels ever! Mind you I did read cuckoo Marans can be fat and lazy
Maybe they just can't be bothered?

I'm pretty new to chickens, so I am still learning breed traits. I have had other birds (cockatiels and a blue-headed conure) and just love having birds. I've trained Penny and Henry to step up on command, just like parrots. Penny is good and responsive but Henry only does it at night going to bed.
It sounds like you have a sweet family. How many hens do you have?

Hi
I love cockatiels my sister had two and a parrot and lovebirds
Mind you I really love budgies mainly because they look so 50s retro!

I have six cuckoo Marans my first chickens they are 7 wk 1 day today( I never use to remember my children's ages like this)
Then I bought 3 cream legbars( so beautiful) 2wks old
I hatched 4 bresse galoise ( also beautiful) 2 wks old
And bought 4 march Daisy's ( I don't like them!) 3 wks old

Certainly keeping me busy!

Oh, wow! That is a lot of chickens! I have 5 at the moment - 2 8-wks and 3 2-wks. My first 2 are an EE pullet (she is the one who likes people and flies up to socialize) and a Light Brahma cockerel - he is a very pretty boy:

Here are the 3 littles:

Do you have pix of your babies? What is it about the Daisys that you don't like?

My main problem with the marsh Daisy's is they don't like being cuddled and they are very fast! Struggle to catch them, they jump too
Very lively, I like a more sedate calm chicken!

Oh so fuzzy!! Good to know about high-strung nature of the Daisys. I like the calm ones, too. My very red BSL is very calm, understands "up" pretty well and is quiet. I'm really glad and went back and got her as my third.
What kind is the fluffy yellow one - 2nd pic? And I love the trio napping together!
What names are rolling around? I have Red, Runty and Lorpy.

Hi
My little yellow chicks are Bresse gauloise , my first hatching chicks
What are BSL?
I bought some Pekins today at the market
So excited to have some fully grown chickens
Might even get an egg or two

Not thought of names yet, I did name my Marans after old coronation street stars( English soap)
Vera, Betty, Raquel , Stanley jack and Eddie
But instead its little cockerel, buster( big cockerel) and cuddles( fav cockerel)
And the girls, poor hens haven't got names yet

Haha - do the girls notice they don't have names?
You have a zoo!! I think I saw some Pekins in my browsing. But I'll look them up along with Bresse Gauloise. Sounds french. ;)
BSLs are Black Sex Linked. They get gold and black, which is pretty. I did no research on any of the ones I got until AFTER I brought them home. Just picked up whatever the feed store had - I think chickenality is as important as breed. But Next batch I'll probably go with a local breeder and get more serious.
How exciting you have grown ups now! I hope they transition well - how many did you get? I like the idea of hens having soap star names! Is it hard to get pix uploaded? I would LOVE to see your babies!!

Someone wants to know if their are Australorp breeders in the UK. Do you know of any?
