6 wks French blue copper marans

First off, pullets don't start to turn red in the comb till they are almost ready to lay eggs. At 6 weeks old, a pullet would still be many months away from laying. Secondly, do you see that darker shade of blue both are starting to develop in the shoulder/wing area? That's a male specific trait of the Blue gene.
Both are 100% cockerel.

Wait - chicks don't lay eggs this early? And their comb clues to when? I had no idea!

No need to be condescending. I posted here with a prayer that someone would tell me to wait till it crows or lays an egg. Remember, my last "cockerel" laid the first egg. Don't be such a fun police and understand I'm that little kid with her fingers in her ears sayin blahblahblah I don't hear you!
Thirdly, Thanks for sharing your knowledge of blue traits. Hadn't seen that anywhere.

Hope you figure it out. Most people on this site try to be kind and helpful. Sorry you felt dissed, but I think most people are really trying to be helpful. There is alot of great information in the articles part of the site. There are some helpful clues to whether you have a pullet or cockerel, but for most of us it is an informed guess until they show major sexual maturaturation signs. Please continue to use this site for any info you may need, I have used it for years and found it very helpful. Good luck, I hope your chickens are the sex you wanted.

And better yet if they are both boys someone here will find one of them to be worthy of more than stew and close enough to come get him!
I can't get rid of my Cochin roo. He's too good to his ladies so only room for one more. I am a bit surprised at the different rate of development between the two being they are from the same breeder but that's just my novice mind I guess.

Almost at 7 weeks and mama is no longer calling them in for treats. She still defends them though. I got some ok body shots (and photo bombs). They are from the same breeder but have totally different body shapes. Is that normal? The lighter one, McSpurry, has pointy copper feathers one the neck and I've seen mount his guaranteed female cream legbar sibling. My roo Ali and suspected cockerel Cochin/silky bantam dont pay attention to him. They do pay attention to the darker one I'm hoping is my Black Eyed Susan. Like really pay attention. I really don't see darker coloring on the wing bows. It seems pretty consistent throughout. Maybe that is just my novice eye. I'm going to keep my hopes up until I hear a crow. I'm better now so if you cry roo I won't spaz. Here's some pics :)
