6th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2015 Hatch-A-Long

Here is a list of what I have set:
30 Easter Eggers
34 Naked Neck (some will not be NN b/c of gene)
20 Green Egger Naked Necks
9 cross breed
11 black/blue Copper Marans
4 Marans x Crested Easter Egger for Crested Olive Eggers. These four eggs are from only 1 hen that was collected for 5 days.

Now now people, let's not get prudish. If we as a society can accept and even encourage sexualisation of women for advertising purposes (which I certainly am not saying I personally agree with, far from it), then why not accept the truth of sex in the animal kingdom, or dressing up as chickens... or down into natural states for candling.

Speedo's however, totally offensive on every level

Is anybody else a little more excited for NY now, rather than Xmas??
I usually dislike New Years (and my birthday.... Just more reminders that time is moving on and ticking by, leaving me older and feeling less accomplished as the days go by LOL).
This is a much better way to ring in the new year!!

I whole-heartedly agree on both counts!

We do this every year so be ready next December!

The is also an Easter hatch but Easter is on a different date each year.
Is it bad that I'm already planning what to set for Easter...or that I have the March 15th set date already marked on the calender?

I am amazed!

16 of 24 Trader Joes Fertile eggs are developing--I spent $2.99 a dozen for those eggs! The expiration day on them was 12-31--It should have been a hatch date on the carton!

The Blue Australorp eggs have 8 of 11 with veins and they were shipped!

for a good hatch!

What breed are the Trader Joe eggs?

The eggs are white shelled--last time I hatched them they were Leghorns.
The batch I just hatched in November were Astra-Whites (a couple had the "splash" markings)

Easter Hatchalong 2015!!

Easter is on April 5 and, in the past anyway, eggs were set to hatch the day before so that chicks would be on-hand for Easter. By my calculations, that would mean chicken eggs would be set on Saturday, March 14!! Plan early for eggs!!

Yay, for Spring!!

After not candling, it looks like we've got embryo spots in all the eggs!

Yea!

I checked with Whole Foods in Littke Rock today. They have quit selling the fertile eggs because they were throwing away more than they sold. Out if a case of 30 they were only selling about 5 or six dozen. Not very profitable.
