Okay... I caved and candled the Araucana/Blue Andalusian cross eggs. Wish I hadn't because right now they're so clear I could use them as beacons.

I'll wait until Thursday to do the rest of the farmers market eggs, but I am getting suspicious that the egg seller was saying anything -- "Yes, they're fertile!" -- in order to get their last eggs sold so they could go home.

At least I've got shipped eggs also to bolster my numbers and hopes.... oh. wow. Listen to that. That doesn't sound promising at all. wonky eggs


(Well, thank goodness I've got 6 soon-to-be-layers out in the coop, so all's not lost!)

The Duck Egg Has Movement!

I candled it again and after a bit I finally saw movement in the darkness! So day 28 should be next Sunday. I wonder if it will hatch early like the chicks did?

Well, if those where mini ducks, yes. But since they are not, ducks outside along with chick, quails to a friend and bantams to a forever home. Sigh...

thanks my lil egglets need all the good vibes they can get but it was a fifty fifty gamble anyways the eggs are maybe fertile maybe not the hens were laying sparadic and I DIYed my incubator so good vibes are great though I am happy everyone who has snuck a candling in has been good news or possibly good news

That's a great idea!!! Provided you mean the top of the incubator. Otherwise, I rotate my top 180 degrees a lot during the day and my bottom naturally wants to follow so I just usually spin around in circles.

I think I may have posted this funny story in here before but if not, here goes again:

We purchased some goslings and some turkey chicks together one year and kept them in the brooder together. They basically grew up thinking they were all the same. Even to the point that when we would lead the goslings down to the stream to get some swimming in, we would inevitably have to fish a turkey or two out of the water while the other turkeys would pace back and forth on the bank calling for the goslings to come back to them. lol

Currently, we have a duck that thinks she's a chicken to the point that our Ameraucana roosters that she grew up with (before we butchered them) would actually mount her. Now, she keeps flirting with our Australorp (Big Daddy Crow) but he just politely ignores her advances.
