Hi everyone! Just got my first chickens ever. šŸ˜

They are supposed to all be pullets, but I’m curious about this one. Thoughts?

All were hatched on Jan 14, so all about 7 1/2 weeks. The EE is noticeably larger, neck (hackle feathers?) are pointy, tail is pointier, and just has a different expression and carriage. Often seems to be on alert with neck stretched out when the others are eating. Just seems ā€œin chargeā€ somehow. Since EEs can have varying parentages, I’ve no clue what a EE pullet is supposed to look like.

note: the run litter is obviously behind schedule due to weird weather and family illness. It’s today’s project.

Thoughts? Last photo is of the EE next to a Barred Rock pullet.

I'm back with a quick question about her comb. 11 week old EE pullet, and for the life of me, I can't figure out what her comb will look like. The BO and BR have cute little single combs coming in, bigger and pinker, but this one...

Sorry about the pics - she's super skittish, and this was the best I could do:

She's gorgeous. It looks like a pea comb which is a common comb type you'll see with Easter Eggers. Here's an example of what it will look like once she matures.

Thanks!

- I think that about four months ago, I didn't even really realize that hens had combs. There's quite a learning curve with this stuff!!

Oh yeah! Depending on the breed, some of them have bigger combs than roosters when they mature. Here's my Ancona with her huge floppy comb.
