So i recently got a flock of 8 pullets they are probably around 12-16 weeks old right now. I then got two cream legbars. they are probably 7-8 weeks old. since i got them later, the pecking order had been established and i was and still is trying to get them into the flock. So today, I relized that I was out of food and also noticed that in the coop, was one of my cream legbars laying down and looking lethargic and weak. I went to pick her up and nothing, she didnt run away or anything like she used to. My first thought of course is that the food was gone and she is very hungry but her sister who is the same age is just fine and so are the other chickens. I then gave her some food and water and she perked up a little but not completely. I also noticed that there was a long piece of poo coming out of her rear end but seemed to be stuck. I de-attached it from her and found that there was definately grass in it. Then my though is that she is tired becasue of not haveing enough food, trying to get this poo out, and that she didnt have enough grit to break down the grass. Anyways, she isnt using her wings and cannot jump over the little roosting bar that goes completely across the run. She has been like this all morning. very weak and lethargic but definately better than she was when i found her this morning. Any ideas? I could try giving her some diatamatious Earth but idk if she is too young to have is or if it matters. Any ideas why she is behaving this way? And how old do they haev to be to eat diatamatious earth?

DE will do nothing. Could be many things. It could have been injured by the older chicks, could be it's ill, if it has grass coming out whole could certainly be something wrong like it's crop is impacted. Could also be the beginning of Mareks, or even coccidiosis. I would either wait and watch or find a vet. Mine have run out of feed, they are just really hungry, you would have to not feed them for days before they became weak from it.

it is possiable that there hasnt been food for a few days but the other chickens have been fine. I looked up symptoms of mareks and coccidiosis and it doesnt look like she has either. If there is something wrong with its crop how could i fix that?

No DE for this. Start treating for cocci--look up @casportpony and get instructions. Kathy will also like you to post a picture of the poo if you can get one.

I looked up cocci and it doesnt look like she has it i havent seen any symptoms. She was also eating when I put food in front of her and the poo didnt seem to have blood in it. Unfortunately i threw the poo into the woods.

Um, Yeah!! Get them some good starter feed pronto.
Could also be that they are fighting off some organisms that your flock are immune to but the new birds are not. Might be good to give them a dose of Poultry Nutri Drench or Sav-a-Chik vitamins/electrolytes.

Keep the new birds separated by wire from the flock so they can get stronger before trying to integrate.

she has been having trouble using her legs. Can't jump over the roost that is 3 or 4 inches high. when i go to catch her she tries to run away and i put out my hand to stop her and sheruns into it and falls a little.
