Hi.. I’m new here.. I’ve had chickens for about a year. We got some chicks this winter. Our buff Orphinton , Sunny, has been limping for over a week. She eats, roosts, tries to graze with the other 5 girls. But her right leg seems completely useless, she hops on the left, rather well, but tired quickly then has to stop and rest. No signs of Bumblefoot or any marks. No apparent injuries. When I hold her she can wrap her toes around my finger in the good leg. Injured leg does nothing. Was considering a splint? She seems healthy except she is sitting a lot but I believe it’s bc getting around is difficult and tiring.

Hi, welcome to BYC! :frow

Do you happen to feel heat anywhere, indicating an injury you might not be able to see?

Do you know if she was vaccinated for Marek's? Since this is suspect when limping starts.

Is she laying yet? Are you able to post a short video using vimeo or you tube? Notice any changes in her pupils or eyes?

:fl

She was vaccinated for Marek’s. I’m not sure if she is laying or not bc there are two other girls her age and I’m getting a couple small eggs a day but not sure who’s they are. I don’t see any other changes in her except sometimes heavy breathing. But it’s been very hot and humid, and also she literally hops around so it’s quite exhausting. I will try to post a video, but I’m not very technologically inclined. The foot seems completely useless. She tries to use It but then ends up hopping.

i just checked her again. I tried to post video but didn’t work. But I notice that the affected foot is not as warm as her other foot.

How is your hen doing now? My barred rock is faring pretty similar to yours, although nearly three weeks in I"m just looking for others to see how they are faring now. Would love to hear an update.
