We have 5 chickens, a black star, blue Andalusian, silver laced Wyandotte, and 2 silkies. They are all 7 months old. 4 of the 5 are laying eggs besides the silver laced Wyandotte. When did your Wyandotte’s start laying? Because I’m little surprised that the silkies started laying before the Wyandotte.
Thanks!!

Chickens are all on their own clocks for laying. It just seems to happen 🤣 my silver laced wyandotte hasn't been laying for 8 months 😫😫 I hate the waiting! I betcha she'll start up really soon!

My Wyans started laying between months 6 and 7. That said, "start of lay" is really more of a suggestion than a hard and fast calendar date and, in addition to individual variation within breed (which can be substantial), you have to consider the influence of ambient light level, as well. I'm unsure where you are located, but assuming Northern hemisphere, we are coming into winter and daily light levels (hours) have already begun to drop - the more northern you are, the greater the effect.

Particularly for new layers, it would not be uncommon for a bird not yet laying to "defer/delay" due to the influence of the declining daylight until much later than they would "typically" begin.
