7 week chick laid eggs - see pic

This is an old thread, but that egg looks Exactly like the egg one of my quails lays. Plus she mentioned it having a tougher membrane which is like quail eggs. Quails do run around in the wild.

i have 17 birds in total, 5 Easter eggers(7-8 weeks), 1 silkie(7-8 weeks), 6 of i dont know breed(1-3 weeks)and 5 Quails(3-4 weeks). today i found an egg on the floor..........please explain.

my hens never lay anywhere but the coop in their boxes. And none of my hens lay an egg that dark. No one else here but me so no april fools joke.

I cracked it open and there was something that looked like a yolk. It was all smushed because it was hard to crack...the membrane was really tough.

Havent seen another one and didnt really expect to.

But hey - 2 years ago I was the one that had the four legged chick so who knows. She lived about 8 months and laid a giant egg. Then died the following day.

I found that funny and sad at the same time, hahaha. :(

I came to find an explanation for my own findings. Tonight as I lock up my 7 wk old chicks, I find a tiny egg. And they do not live with any older chickens yet. They are isolated in their own coop with no chance of an egg being left by anyone else. My chicks were hatched around Apr 21. It's now June 11 and one of them left me a tiny little blue egg. I have ameraucanas. Now seeing that I am not the only one this has happened to, I believe that it's possible for a 7 wk old chick to lay an egg. I candled it. It has a little yolk even. The egg is around and inch to an inch and a half long.
