I had a 7 week old hen die yesterday while passing an egg. I found her in the coop with the egg about 75% out and the egg and her vent were covered in blood. She started laying at 6 weeks which is the earliest time I have had a hen start laying. Before her death she did not show any signs of illness. I have been raising quail for 4 yrs. and this bird was part of my 4th flock. I have never seen this happen before, has anyone had this experience and/or know what may have caused this? Thank you in advance for your reply.
what percent protein are you feeding them? Higher percentages are linked with higher rates of prolapse, so that's something to consider?
