My coturnix quail has laid a tiny egg. What does this mean?? She’s 2 years old. Also she hasn’t laid an egg in a few weeks, could this mean she’s starting to lay again? Any advice would be appreciated
Here is this tiny egg in comparison with an egg that’s the usual size

That's what is often called a fairy egg. At 2 years old, she is likely to lay irregularly and may even stop entirely, though I have older hens that still lay. Two is generally where you start seeing a decrease in productivity, however.

Coturnix lifespans are generally in the 2-5 year range. They don't have long lifespans, unfortunately.

Ahh thank you! Is this anything I should be concerned or worried about?

Nothing to worry about if it happens now and then. They happen most often with new layers and with old birds. If you open it, it may not even have a yolk.

Some of my young layers are still getting into the swing of things. I'm surprised by how many jumbos I get. The cardboard cartons I have don't want to close easily. Gotta make sure the big ones are in the middle.
