Howdy I have 2 Silkies and was wondering if anyone had thoughts on this one? Definitely still early, but just curious will post the other one later if she lets me catch her lol. So far the comb is not raised.

honestly, for silkies I'd still say too soon to tell. They tend not to lay until around 7-8 months iirc

I would need a much clearer photo of the comb. Looks like a cockerel though. Is the bird a hatchery or breeder bird?

My Pet Chicken bird. Is it the feathers on the head?
I'd say hen if it's form my pet chicken. Comb doesn't look as big as a hatchery cockerel's should be. And yeah, the feathers on the head make the comb hard to see.Did you buy it sexed? i know MPC sells sexed bantams.

Yes I did get it sexed, but even that isn’t a guarantee. I was worried about the head feathers becoming streamers. Also have a white Silked Egger and she is almost twice the size, but has a nicely rounded head and small comb.

Not the best photos, but at some point I get tired of running around the cage and just used the camera inside.

That chick is way too young for streamers. Silkie cockerels get them from 18-24 weeks in my very limited experience with 2 hatchery cockerels. And so far looks like a hen. Good luck!

Thanks! I will keep posting new photos if anything drastic changes in the upcoming months.

Here is my Carlos, also a black silkie, and he was a Cockerel who sadly passed away a few weeks ago. I'll find some photos from when he was younger.

Him at around 18 weeks?

Him 8 weeks exactly

He looks so crusty in this photo but this is him at 6 weeks.
