7 week olds sleeping in nest box

If you have older hens that use the nest boxes, YES that's a problem, no one likes poopy eggs.
You may have to go in each evening and move the birds that use them to the roosts!

If you have no other chickens in the coop, block off the nest boxes until the pullets are old enough to lay.

My 6 week olds slept in there also so I blocked them off till they are closer to being ready to lay. I have nest pads in there boxes and they were pooping all over in there. They just roost up now, no problems.

I made removable nest boxes for easy cleaning, but I've had to keep them out altogether because that's where my chicks want to sleep. I tried lowering the sides and then covering them up but they still wanting to sleep on top. Of course, now that they are removed, the chicks STILL sleep in the spot where the nest boxes were. I put portable roosts there, in hopes that they will grow to like their roosts and when the roosts can be moved to the appropriate sleeping location, the chicks will follow. Fingers crossed!
