Also most chicks don't seriously roost till at least 8 weeks old. Mine are 9 weeks and just starting to get serious about it. They can jump a surprisingly tall distance at 8 weeks, a foot tall roost is well within ability as long as they have a soft landing surface. At 6 weeks mine were jumping up on the brooder wall which is 2 feet tall with precision.
