7 weeks old. Chick one (Jett)

Really? I wouldn't have thought. Everything I’ve read says “You have to keep roosters with a group of hens.” I would think that there would be a whole lot of fighting between a group of roosters.
It can be tricky, especially if they are all different ages, but if they're raised together and have no ladies to fight over, most tend to get along. It does sometimes depend on the breed, as some get along better than others, but I've had pretty good luck with mine. They aren't as "productive" as the hens, but they're awfully nice to look at and they make great gardeners!

I know he's a silkie, just hoping someone might think there's a chance he's a she. I'm a novice and relying on internet research. Opinions?View attachment 2085021View attachment 2085023View attachment 2085025View attachment 2085028
Very pretty fella! And I'd guess Cochin-Silkie cross. A Silkie would have dark skin (the pink legs give that away) and a walnut comb (flat and wrinkled, just like a true walnut.) The tuft and large black eyes say Silkie. The rest looks Cochin to me. His coloring is beautiful. It'll be neat to see how he grows out.

Agreed that he looks more Cochin than Silkie. Only Silkie trait I see (other than the tiny little crest) is the fifth toe.

Cute boy!
