75 chickens how much space do you reccomend?

If I were you I would make a 30' by 20' coop. That way you have LOTS more room IF you get anymore chickens. What am I saying!? Of course, you are going to get more chickens. How can anyone resist cute lil' fuzzy butts.

Consider a mobile coop. Like, something built on a haywagon type frame.

Otherwise, if you just have a fixed coop with (say) four pastures around it that you rotate the chickens through, the area all around the coop is going to get horribly, horribly eaten-down-to-dirt and muddy in wet weather, and neither you nor the chickens will get full use of the pasture's potential productivity.

That Judy Pangborn (?) book with pix of chicken coops (I think it is called "Chicken Coops"

) has a section on a moveable layer shelter like this; also you should be able to find info via google as I know there are various producers who use similar arrangements.

I believe they mostly use 1.5 (ish) sq ft per chicken, since the shelter is EXCLUSIVELY for roosting at night and for containing nest boxes. A lot different than the typical backyard chicken coop setup people on this forum tend to have.

Good luck,

Pat
