Would you consider that a good or poor rate?

22 out of 28 hatched. 12 of the eggs were shipped eggs the rest from my hens.

Good hatch rate, including the shipped ones. I've never personally ordered eggs online, but many have sworn that getting 1/2 hatch rate is quite good, though not highly unusual. And then home-raised eggs usually range in the 8-9/10 hatch rate.

You've got a good hatch rate, not excellent, but I certainly wouldn't be changing any settings on my incubator.

Is that the total number of egg or the number after candling?

it also makes a HUGE difference what incubator you're using. Back when I had a cheap foam still air with that stupid wafer thermostat, 50% was really good. but now with my sportsman cabinet, good is around 80-90%

Curious too whether that's counting every egg you put in or after any infertile, non starters were thrown out ?
Also out of the six that didn't hatch how many of those were the shipped ones?

I count hatch rate from every egg that goes in. With our eggs I get between 85% and 90% average.
With shipped eggs I averaged around 25%.

Is that the total number of egg or the number after candling?

That is the number of eggs after candling so maybe I am calculating wrong? I am also not counting the 8 shipped D'Uccle eggs in my percentage, none of them was fertile.

I am using a Farm Innovators Pro Series Circulated Air Incubator with Automatic Egg Turner

These were the stats after candling:

Eggs laid by my hens:
Originally: 19
Viable: 15
Not Fertile: 3
Quitter: 1

Shipped eggs (Blue Laced Red Wyandottes):
Originally: 14
Viable: 11
Not Fertile: 2
Quitter:1

Shipped eggs (Mottled Black D'Uccles)
Originally: 8 (I paid for 6)
Cracked in shipping: 1
Not Fertile: 7

What was the % of hatch from total original number of your eggs?
What was it from total original number of shipped not counting the broken one?
That's how I figure %. Everything that goes in on day one to what hatches.
A lot of people figure it different ways. If I figured it at lockdown as some do heck I could brag many 100% hatches.

To each their own.
I count them because it was an egg I put in and wanted to hatch.
This is just my opinion.
If I don't count them then say I put 24 eggs in and 12 end up being fertile and all 12 hatch that's a 100% hatch rate and sounds great. But it reality its a lot of eggs taking up space and time for nothing.
If I do the same and get 12 infertile eggs and hatch the other 12 and count that as a 50% hatch then I'm telling myself that's not good. What happened and why? Then I see well 12 weren't fertile so to improve my hatch rate I need to address that and improve it.
I usually switch out the rooster from that pen or those pens. Then the next hatch if I see it goes to only 2 out of 24 not being fertile then I know I'm going in the right direction and my hatch rate should be improved.
I keep track of my rates just for myself and to get as close to getting every egg to hatch whether its because of fertility, the incubator, my methods, etc etc.
If I did it just for bragging rights then maybe I'd figure it differently.
