7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

We are setting a new batch tonight. I bought two dozen RIR, two dozen Barred rocks, 1 dozen Welsummer, and a dozen silkie eggs (local breeder hascbeen overloaded and was selling fertile eggs for four dollars a dozen which was too good to pass up). I will get half of what hatches. The lady I split with was going to get some turken and more of others to fill her cabinet Incubator, but the above is plenty for me. Besides I am not into turken.

Turken chicks are so cute! But so are silkies (and every other chick) so you should have plenty of cuteness. Sounds you've got the hatching bug now!

I just checked and I do see a pip!

It is on one of the eggs from Whole Foods too. Those eggs were collected 7 days  before I put them into the incubator. It must be because they are fresh.

Store eggs, from the refrigerator section....Oh My!

Love the store bought eggs, nothing pipping on shipped eggs but don't expect till tomorrow. Mine usually starts the day before and runs a day past hatch date. I do not hear the chirping sound they make in shell so I always depend on wife to let me know. To much construction noise for too many years and has taken a toll on hearing.

Here are part of the 17 that hatched out of 21 that went into lockdown. The last one hatched yesterday with the majority being Monday which was day 21. Since these are German line Swedish Flower Hens, they are mostly black and blue based. The light color ones are isabelle leghorns.

This is a picture of one of my SFH's that hatched about 2 weeks ago. His linage is 1st import GFF. I have been working on diversity and have been getting fairly good laying, even over the winter (3-4/wk ea.), as well as excellent hatch rates on the SFH. My GFF SFH's are mostly red/mahogany base colored.
