yesThat's awful what a disappointment.
Good morning, CH. So the last two eggs didn't make it? So sorry, buddy. Those eggs were given to you, so at least you didn't lose money on them. It's very possible those most of those eggs weren't fertile, and the eggs that were fertile may have come from chickens that aren't very healthy. Not only that, but you had a lot of stuff going on so you weren't able to see after them all the time. I wish it had turned out differently, but I had a feeling it wasn't going to end well. You do remember me saying that, don't you? I think you should put your new controller on your incubator, test it several times, and when you see it is doing what it's supposed to do, then you should try to set eggs again. I would wait until the Spring when the weather is warmer, and the chances of eggs being fertile are the best. Okay? We all want to see you have good success hatching babies and raising lots of chickies!!!Well, out of my three DOZEN eggs I have nothing to show for it.
The Silkier Roo likely has a messed up skull that makes it prone to bran injury--like a Boxer that is punched too much. You could use him as a cross with hens that need more of a crest.I'm going for thoroughness??![]()
I completely forgot to post pics!![]()
The baby in questions...I don't think he has wry neck but I could be wrong. The neck felt tight on the inside curve and the vertebrae feel...wrong. There seemed to be a bit of swelling but that's gone away now. It reminded me of the odd lamb who was a triple or a quad where room was tight and their hip had issues.
I believe I have a wry neck on a young Silkie X rooster. I have Poul-vite vitamins; a poultry vitamin water soluble premix. If he gets a consistently super large dose he's fine. I got him back to normal after his last episode and put him back with the rest of the chickens. He regresses on the normal vitamin dose in the regular chicken water. It's so unfortunate.I figure his entire sibling line is a now a write-off.![]()
Lambs get the same thing...which is interesting. I've had the odd lamb show thiamine deficiency and stargaze. They expire very fast if not caught...in hours apparently. I culled the lambs and the lines they were off of once they were ready to slaughter.
If the chick has wry neck or just can't cut it...I'd rather he expire sooner than later. I don't mean to sound harsh but I don't want him to suffer if he doesn't have quality of life.![]()
Two brooders? NICE!!!![]()
I start mine inside in a box (I didn't have the rabbit cage ready) then to the cage either inside or in the coop in the brooder. Depends if it's -30 or not...lol!![]()
I just told my hubby tonight that the 10 eggs I set are all developing...lol.And he's still ok (so far) of the eggs I plan to buy; White and silver laced Wyandottes, maybe some Icelandic, Vorwerk and some hybrid BLACKS !!! Mmmm...black.![]()
