Anyone care to explain the penny to me? (side note: my new buff Ameraucana is named penny)

If you do use them, they should be marked 1982 or older

I heard it was before a 70's date? Not sure whether it was an early date, or middle date, or later? But, 70's? I could be wrong. I'm only wrong once in a while. Not a great once in a while, but once in a while.

Are you sure? He could be mating only one girl. Incubate them just to be safe. :-D

Good thought..maybe? You could know by the first 24 hrs. I candle at 24 hrs. to see if the embryo has started, easy to see in light eggs. There is a big big dot in the middle floating around. Turn the egg slowly to see if you can spot it. Usually pretty easy to see.

Some people just add the penny to keep the water tray from growing bacteria during incubation. Distilled water can also be used in the bator for the same result.

Um. Distilled water will grow bacteria faster than chlorinated tap water

It's what they suggest giving hatchlings that are shipped to you. You put it in the water you give them. It's like probiotics, I think.
