7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

My delivery guy left four dozen eggs (apx $300) on top of the mailbox in sleet. He was a few hours late, so I didn't know to even go out to the box. The next day, he brought them up the driveway. He thought I should have seen them through the trees. He offered to pay for the damaged contents until I told him how much he owed. He has avoided me like the plague ever since .

Oh no! When we had a package stolen from the top of our mailbox, I tried to get the post office to replace it, but I ended up getting my credit card company to replace it. It was easier. Have you looked into filing a claim through the post office?

Great set up...can I ask what kind of light bulb you have in there?

Use a Fluorescent bulb. Here is a sight that shows them, the spiral kind is what I have in there, and it's brightness is 900 lumens.

You can buy these in most any store. Just showing you the photos. I'm sure you already know what a fluorescent bulb is...but just in case.

Our delivery people don't relish coming all the way up our steep driveway either. A few months ago, the UPS driver left a padded envelope on the trunk of the car. DH did not see it before he drove off. We found it the next day a few hundred yards down the road. Luckily it wasn't anything breakable. My eggs are always held at the post office for pick-up.

Yes, lol, the one that Sally didn't know what to think of. My hubby made if for me. I have used it for yrs. I can see really well into those eggs with this...thing. Made with a big bean can, the handle from a flood lamp, and a card board piece on top..nope it doesn't get hot on the card board, the can will if I take a while candling. He soldered the handle onto the can. I am hands free when I candle, expect to tune the egg.
I think I'm going to try making my own this weekend

You've inspired me lol. I've got an extra lamp kit from when I made cookie tin water heaters a couple of weeks ago!
LOL, my post office knows me for a different reason. We have the WORST POST MAN in the history of postmen. I live up on a hill. It's a great post office, just a horrible delivery guy. There is a T intersection at the bottom of my driveway. It's a 3 way stop at the exit. The mailbox is at that intersection. Our postman, instead of taking boxes up the driveway, leaving them inside our open gate or taking them back to the post office, he leaves them ON TOP OF THE MAILBOX, for all the world to see and/or steal. After a dozen phone calls, emailed complaints, written complaints, I went in and made an in person complaint. Now there is a HUGE yellow card in the sorting box for my area that says to hold ALL boxes. Every once in a while, he still leaves one on top. When he does, I have to go back and file new complaints. They recognize me now when I walk in the door.....it's kind of sad, last time I went in to do regular business, as was waiting in line, the manager came out to check if I had another complaint or not. I'm hoping if this guy gets enough complaints, they will transfer him somewhere else.
I went through something similar several years ago at my old farm. That postal worker would put everything in a bag and hang it off my flag. If you weren't home they would twist in the wind and break off and fly down the road.

I forgot how many times I complained with that lady. I have a great mail deliverer now. She drives to my back porch and hand delivers them to me. I'm baking her some homemade bread and cookies next week for a holiday thank you.

Thank you! I'm going to try to build something similar. It's such a hassle the way I'm doing it, I lose patience after about half the eggs....

Occasionally we have a substitute mailman. I had queen bees delivered and they went into the mailbox, in full sunlight. Needless to say, the bees were dead when I got them out.
My mailman said to let him know ahead of time anytime I have anything like that so he can hand carry them to me or leave them on my back porch.
