7th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2016 Hatch-A-Long

I haven't had any more pasty butt since I went back to non medicated feed.
I am suspicious of medicated feed. It has the same ingredient as corid in it for coccidiosos. It is a thiamine blocker so to compensate, they are supposed to add extra vitamins to the feed.

It seems that it does not work sometimes.

I don't know if that was it or not but they are fine now.

Medicated feed is to help the chicks build up resistance to coccidiosis. It does not protect against other diseases. I give them either flock raiser or chick feed from hatch. Pullets go on layer after the first egg is laid.

Try vitamins and electrolytes if they seem off to you. Vitamins are a good thing to give them until the medicated feed is gone just to be safe.

It sounds like you are on the right track!

I watch for symptoms of coccidiosis and treat it if The chicks seem sick. I have not treated for it in two seasons though.

Good advice, Thank You

Actually set this lil brooder up for emergencies, power outages. Bought the storage box on clearance 2.5x6' (for artificial Christmas tree). Has two wheels on the bottom, so I can lift the front & move it closer to the generator. Actually the four Bresse in the picture hatched 7 days earlier. They were extremely unhappy by themselves they could hear these chicks peeping and I'd come home and find them on top of their brooder. So they are now happily together.

Ok that explains the size difference glad they are getting along

@casportpony If I get some fish mox to give to my bird who has a chest mucusy thing going on, should I order some sulfa medication to give if the feed store does not carry it. sally told me i should ask you
