Ended 7th Annual New Years Day Hatch-a-long contest number 6 Gingerbread Contest

Katie asked me if I could spray my chicken coop with hairspray so I could keep it "forever and ever." Um, that would be a no, Bug! Where the heck did she get that idea?

Katie is one smart gal - I think you can spray it with acrylic protector and keep it for at least a few years?

Found this on a google:

If you don't plan on eating your gingerbread house, you can spray it with a clear lacquer (available at craft or hardware stores). It may take several coats. If you spray it with lacquer, seal tightly with plastic wrap, and store in a cool dry place, you may be able to preserve your gingerbread house up to a year. Properly sealed and protected, it is actually possible to keep a gingerbread house up to a year.

I knew about the protector...just not sure how she made the leap to hairspray. She's just full of surprises! Nah, think it will go the way of the broken aluminum Christmas Tree at the end of the celebrations. I'm surprised as all get out that it's still standing!

'Cause hairspray is laquer. Wouldn't hurt to give it a try before trashing it?

I'll pass. Although I did post a picture of my real coop and this one on another thread and I'm amazed at the resemblance I pulled off. Maybe I could make little resin miniatures and sell them in tourist shops, like they do the Empire State Building!

Maybe little coop tree ornaments? I would buy one.

Would it be considered looking for an advantage if I posted the two pictures here? The rules say 3 photos only and I don't want to ruffle any feathers, but it was kinda cool to see how closely they look alike!

I will allow it.

My son made a fire truck out of crackers frosting and candies in Kinder garden.
I threw it away 15 years later. No mold, no bugs... Let's hear it for chemical preservatives!
