I am leaning toward pullets.Seeking gender guesses for one of my chocolate orpingtons and both gender and breed guesses for a mystery bird, both about 8.5 weeks old.
I bought 4 chicks from a local feed store in early May. They were pulled from an "English Orpington assortment" bin, but most of what was left appeared to be chocolate orpingtons. I picked 3 chocolate orpingtons and one from the bin that didn't look to be chocolate, just for a little variety. However, after getting home, it became pretty clear that this fourth chick is probably not an orpington. It was a bit bigger than the other chicks and also has 5 toes on each foot.
One of the chocolates was very obviously a roo at about 4 weeks, but the chocolate orpington I'm including here has landed somewhere in the middle of the obvious roo and obvious pullet -- it has a much pinker comb and wattles than the pullet, though not as pronounced as the roo. It has also been the slowest to develop and the most outgoing of the bunch. The second picture is my mystery bird. It's still a bit larger than the others. It has enormous legs but I haven't seen any wattle or comb development.
Would love to hear what y'all think!

Could Mystery be a Black Copper Marans? She looks a lot like mine. The copper in my BCM didn't start coming in until 11-12 weeks.
