8.8 Earthquake in Chile - Tsunami Created

I'm watching live coverage on CNN.com right now. It's really interesting!

A lot of scientists are thinking that an increase on earthquakes here on earth are related to the solar minimum (lack of sunspots on the Sun). There seems to be a correlation between those two things historically. I believe that at this time there are no visible sunspots; interestingly, we've also had an increase in strong earthquakes.

Here it is not three months into the year and I think we're already almost a quarter way into the average 17 major earth quakes globally. Granted most of them happen and have happened in the ocean. But still... there's 10 months left to the year... at this rate...

I think there's been four or five 7.0 or greater quakes already this year already. yeesh.

here's a fun site, it lets you see whats going on in real time, and in the last hour and beyond.

The table won't show up correctly- but we've had 2 over 7.0, and 18 between 6.0 and 6.9. The ones from yesterday and today are not on there though.

It's at the bottom of that page on a chart.
