We homeschool our children, ages 17 years down to almost 2 years) and I am a student midwife.

Welcome! We homeschool ours as well. (Two grown and gone, but I'm still schooling nine of them - ages 16-3.)

As a mama with neurological Lyme, I think I'd rather deal with poisonous snakes than ticks. I'd buy the guineas in hordes and not look back! I've heard that ducks will eat ticks too but they aren't tick machines.

Welcome to BYC!
You have come to the right place for great people and great information. Everyone is is always willing to help in any way they can!
I have 40 acres in north florida and the ticks and sketers will eat you alive (I swear some are pterodactyls! They are huge! ). We have gunieas and chickens, get both and raise them together! We have no ticks where they free range! I have 30+ guniea eggs in the bator fo add to my already chaotic animal life

They are loud but you get used to it and start to like the sounds. They will alarm if someone or somthing is on our property or enters the property that they know doesn't belong! And they are good hawk watchers!
Also check out the Learning Center, it has tons of great information too!
ENJOY!!!:wee

Welcome to Backyard chickens!:frowGlad you joined the flock! BYC is a very helpful and informative site. Guineas are better at reducing the bug population than chickens. Guineas also can do it without destroying your grass but you will find chickens are useful in so many other ways! Hope you enjoy being here!
