Today I got 2 australorp chicks and 1 barred rock chick. About 8 days old. They are getting vitamin water and medicated feed. The barred rock started out fine and normal, but in the last 3 hours has become extremely lethargic, crouched under the heat plate. She got up once and walked over to the food and water, took a small sip and one bite and then crouched down next to the feeder for a while. The other chicks are coming and going from under the heat plate and eating normally. I also have 4 other 2 week old chicks in the brooder I got last week and all are doing well.

I picked up the heat plate a few minutes ago just to take a look at her. The other chicks all scattered but she didn't even flinch. Just stayed crouched down.

She has no pasty butt, no wheezing or coughing that I can tell, no obvious injuries.

Would you do sugar water or egg yolk? If sugar water, how much sugar in how much water? Other ideas?

I'm pretty new to this, so thanks in advance!

Do the sugar water - one heaping teaspoon to a cup of water. Do the egg as well. You may let all the chicks have the sugar water and the eggs. You may also safely combine these new ones with the two-week olds and make life easier on everyone.

If the chick does not immediately improve on the sugar water, say, within an hour, it may be constipated. Give one half teaspoon of coconut oil chilled and divided into tiny bits directly into the beak until all half teaspoon is inside the chick.

Thank you! I don't have coconut oil though and can't get any until tomorrow. Anything else in case the sugar water and egg yolk don't help?
