8 day old chick - What breed is it - RIR ?

I think he has both, light sussex and rir.... But he is not sure what the eggs are from.
I thought the black feathers on the neck might be clue to someone ?
Any ideas about the sex ? .. Comb looks large but I don,t see any tail feathers, ,it's not crowing but feet look big ... So I all confused ?

It is difficult to identify what went into making a mixed chicken. That is why it helps to narrow the possibilities by identifying the breeds your friend has.

I think at least one parent was a Rhode Island Red, or something similar.

Does your friend have both Light Sussex and Rhode Island Red roosters?

It looks like a rooster.

So, does your friend only have Rhode Island Reds and Light Sussex chickens? If so, your rooster must be a mix of those two breeds.
