First of all i know it is very early to be able to tell male or female. The breeder I got them from vent sexes them and wing feather sexes them...though she will be the first to say it it not 100% :)
I have EE chicks that are now 8 days old. They are all wonderful and starting to feather out nicely. One of them though seems far behind the others. I am posting pics of wing and tail feathering and some side by side comparisons to get any opinions on whether or not this may mean that S/he is a roo...

Standing chick with wing profile of "suspect" ;)....

Vs, profile example of all the other feathering....

Now, out stretched wing of "suspect"...

Vs. out stretched wing example of all the others....

Now, side by side comparison of both. All the others are also sprouting tail feathers and my "suspect" still has just a fluffy butt! S/he is here in the middle of two of the others...No tail, no wings!

Any opinions? Maybe just a slow starter?????? I really didnt want a roo, but if s/he is, too late...already in love....Again, I know its early to tall but curious why one would be so different.....
Thanks for any replies!

Your chick could just be a slow bloomer, you don't know for sure yet. Try to be patient--I know it's hard!

I'm having the same exact thing with my barred rock chick. It's feathering out is slow and different like that that and not growing like the rest. Good luck to you. And I'm in the same boat with the already in love part haha.

Well....a week and a half later and he/she still has little wing feather, still lots of "fluff", no tail...and tinier than the other 3.

Mine looked exactly the same and didn't really feather out till aabout 7 weeks. They are 10 weeks old now and she/ or he haas caught up except no tail. Has always walked taller, more inquisitive and when I posted pics here everyone said roo. I'm still holding out hope though since at 10 weeks still no crowing and now that they are in their coop, it is the most timid. Good luck only time will tell.
