Hello! I have 8 Easter Egger hens at home. Three are about a year and a half old, and they also have a very sweet and gentle rooster that came with them. We hatched 2 eggs in December, one in February. I also have 3 girls, about 6 months old, and the other birds we got at the same age are all laying in another pen. They all get along very well. We used to get 3 eggs a day, and wondered why the older 2 hadn't started laying, and now these girls. I can tell who laid by the shade of the egg. I'm completely perplexed!

Some Easter Eggers can take longer to reach maturity than others. It's not unheard of for a pullet to start laying as late as 6 to 8 months old. For the older girls, it's just about molting season. Egg production will usually cease while they molt. Some hens will start laying again as soon as they are done with molting, others won't lay again until spring is on the way.

Thank you! That was part of my concern. Everyone is molting, but they're laying like champs. We were wondering if there was a longer period of time before they can lay. I got the first set of 3 plus the rooster about a year ago, so they were already laying. The 3 ladies from last year are laying everyday, at first all 3, now I'm only getting 2. Let's hope that they start laying soon, they're my special flock out of huge bunch, and I hate worrying about them. :/

I have always found EE to be poor layers, laying a couple of eggs than taking weeks off then a couple more, than nothing, it does depend on where you got them from and the genetics behind your particular hens, they are bred for the color of the eggs not for high production, that's why I not a fan, I find them too lazy even for my lazy flock, so I will only keep one or two.
