8+ large fowl Salmon Faverolles eggs

Ever shipped eggs to Maine?

I have one girl, Bubbles, that I need to have some playmates for and we (read: I) want to have a broody hen hatch the eggs.

Thanks!

Yep, I have. I've shipped eggs all over the US, and Maine is one of the states I shipped to last year. I've even shipped eggs to AK with good results!

Great!

I'm doing my homework now. We still have several feet of snow, temps still below zero at night. I wish I could order them NOW but I can't.

I do have a couple of questions too. Should I just ask them here on the forum or pm you?

This is my first year with chickens so I have never had a broody hen hatch chickens before. I have several hens that have already displayed broodiness, even in this winter weather, so I have confidence that one of them would be a good mom candidate.

Having said that, are there any tips/tricks I should know about? Looking for all the advice I can get.

Any books/articles etc that talk about hens hatching eggs? I've seen tons of incubator information but that's not what I'm looking for.

Can I put 6 eggs from someone else (eg: your faverolles eggs) plus 6 eggs from my girls (I have a rooster)? If yes, what's the best way to do so?
I have 4 nesting boxes but also just built a seperate pen area inside the coop that I can use as a maternity ward/nursery. How do I go about getting the hen and eggs in there for her to sit on them in there? Trying to figure out logistics.

How soon in advance do orders need to be placed?

Cost?

How often do you ship? I'm probably looking for an arrival at the beginning of April or so.

hhmmmm.... I think that's about all I can think about for now.

LOL Ok, sorry, I though your questions were about my birds specifically, I will PM you answers.

Oh, sorry about that!

I just found your website too and have been checking that out. Your Faverolles are beautiful! I really need/want to get some more. Bubbles is at the bottom of the pecking order and I'd really like for her to have some friends. She's got a wonderful personality and loves to hang out with us. She's my husband's little shop buddy. What are yours like?

That's OK!!

Yeah, they do tend to be bottom of the pecking order if they are with other breeds. Mine have their own coop, and they are the SWEETEST things ever! It's funny, the large fowl Favs seem to get skitsy when they are about 8 weeks-ish, and then slowly calm down until they hit POL, and then they are cuddle bugs again!

And the roos are AWESOME! The boys walk away from me if I come up to them, but once I get a hold of them, they just stand there and wait for me to pick them up (which surprises me because I don't do it very often).

Our Bubbles is just the best and my husband commented one day that we can have more like her. SHOCKER right there!

So I certainly wasn't going to pass that by! We'll be adding to our flock this year.
