Up for bids, 8+ Light Sussex hatching eggs. These birds were bought last fall from Paul Bradshaw at Green Fire Farms. I have two pullets with two cockerels. I set my first eggs 5 days ago and they are ALL developing in my incubator! I won't be offering too many of these this season and Paul doesn't offer hatching eggs...these are HUGE, super-friendly birds. One of my pullets took Best of Variety at the show two weeks ago (I think she would have done much better had the judge known what breed she was (he thought Columbian Rock).

In the above pic, the rooster's feet got a little frostbitten this winter--when I got him this fall, they were "normal-looking," but they were frostbitten this winter. I just wanted to include that as a disclaimer so you don't think he's a reject.

I've had a few questions about just how big these birds are...they are big. The roosters are just now crowing and the hens started laying late last week...

Okay, I got my hubby out about 15 minutes ago and we took some pics...they're not the best and of course, I couldn't get him to stand up straight (I drug him out of bed, LOL) and my runs are not very level--but you get the idea, at least of the size.

But here is one of my roos:

Another, slightly older photo--for reference, the board running horizontally between the two runs in the photo is 3 feet off the ground.

The board on the bottom of the round pen in the back ground (the cedar-stained board, with the cat sneaking underneath) is 18 inches off the ground and 10 inches thick, but there is quite a difference in the ground height outside of the pen & inside...I dug the pens down pretty far when I put sand in them.
