8 Partridge Penedesencas set to hatch November 16Th

have 2 eggs one frizzle egg hatched the other one I candled, inside looks like star-burst blood which I have not seen candled in an egg before, plus no movement, but I won't give up- I will put the egg under a mom a couple of days maybe she can talk the egg into hatching. I have not taken a pic yet of chick, hubby usually down loads pics for me, his comp is down, will try soon. when my new hatchling is not wobbly I will but him in with my other chicks, slowly though they are older, I think I will hold everyone on my lap.

:woot can't wait to see pics on your little babies!

Today is hatch day on my Penedesencas. It has not gone well at all. It came down to four eggs that were developing normally..then two that looked questionable and two that looked great. However the day before yesterday, one of the eggs pipped at the bottom. I'm seeing that malpositioned chicks are common in shipped eggs. I have an egg turner they were in before lockdown that does its job AND they were put in small side down. Anyway, that one died :( then yesterday another chick pipped...the second good egg. It is again malpositioned. I did research on here and peeled her a breathing hole without disrupting the membrane. I'm keeping the membrane damp. Doesn't look like she's ready yet cause their are still veins. But she seems happy and is peeping. Just keeping a very close eye on her. She may be my only chick from this silly $60 gamble.

please, please, please try not to "help" the chick hatch! until they are over due (making them damp etc.). another gal was hatching eggs, and was saying how she was "spraying her eggs" and she said her other chicks came out too moist and died, but she continued to spray the last hatching egg and it died too. I don't want to scare you, but I dry hatch, and my chicks still come out nice and moist. eggs have to dry out the fluid in their egg some what or they drown. good luck with your hatch, I will try and get pic up tonight.

I'm just now getting your message! I had to help her...her membrane was dried out already and she was stuck to the inside. Even her fluff was starting to dry. All the veins were absorbed and she is doing ok. Except for the fact that I can see the issue with why she was having problems hatching. Her bones seem to have not formed right and she's kind of hunch backed. One of her legs is turned up underneath her too. She's the only one out of the batch of 8 that actually made it out...:/

don't freak out about the turned leg- i had one that had that after 2 weeks it went normal- with out any help from me so I hope yours will be fine too. the last one that hatched of mine is a star gazer- she seems to be getting better, I have her in with my 2 2week olds they seem to be accepting her. the other egg I left with the mom got pushed to the edge of the nest, and got cold so it did not make it.

My little chick is much better. I got a q-tip, cut the cotton off the ends of it, bent it into a "V" shape and then taped her foot over it to where her toes are splayed out normally...so it's kind of working like a snow shoe. She's actually walking much better with it. :D But she is lonely..so I've been carrying her around and comforting her when she cries. I think she will be a house chicken until the others hatch on the 25th. That's a long time to be a single baby chick! :jumpy
