Hello, I have 3 ameraucanas that are all more or less 8 weeks old. They were purchased as pullets from cackle hatchery. At around 2 weeks of age, one started showing more of a red comb than the other two. Now at 8 weeks of age this same bird(Lucille)is the only of the three with a three rowed pea comb. The other two have one row pea combs. My suspicion is that Lucille is a rooster because of the following:

  • Started crowing recently
  • Considerably larger than others
  • "Filled out" neck plumage
  • Dominance over others
  • Somewhat pointy saddle feathers

Here are some pictures of Lucille and the other ameraucanas:

What do you guys think she is? I'm getting mixed results researching about this.

Wow, definitely a little rooster. I vote to name him Luke

That's really what I want to do, but I would only get rid of any of my little guys if I new 100% that they would have a good home, and not end up someones dinner. How would you go about finding a good owner for these guys.

You can ask around on here...I'd take them but I can only have one rooster at a time and I'm pretty sure my Salmon Faverolle chick is a young cockerel.
