The biggest giveaway for me is always feather pattern. He has bright white splotches on his wings and back. A pullet would also typically have a lighter chest. If it were a solid colored bird, comb size would be a good indicator too. For me, color is very easy to tell and doesn't require as much context such as age and breed. Pullets will almost always have a very even color pattern and never have oranges/whites/reds on just the shoulders without it sort of blending in with the rest of their pattern. If this bird were a pullet, it would look similar to the one of the first two birds and have a salmon or white breast. The next picture shows the comparison between pullets and cockerels of a similar variety.How do you tell? The comb? Sorry you guys just make it seem so easy. I struggle on most photos still.

Cockerel8 weeks old to the day when these two pictures were taken. Not shown, would be a better angle I couldn't get, showing the red/brown spots on his wings. Cockerel??
